Bitcoin Faces Perfect Storm: Fed Decision, Inflation Data, GDP, and Big Tech Earnings Loom

Bitcoin, the broader cryptocurrency market, and the global financial system are entering one of the most significant macroeconomic weeks of the year. Key data points, including Federal Reserve policy decisions, fresh inflation and GDP figures, and a wave of earnings reports from major technology companies, are scheduled to be released within a matter of days.
With Bitcoin (BTC) already struggling to hold above the critical $80,000 support level, these upcoming economic releases could determine whether the current correction deepens or if buyers finally regain control of the market.
Federal Reserve, Inflation, and GDP Data
Analysts at the Kobeissi Letter noted that the busy week begins with Tuesday’s release of September New Home Sales data. Attention will then shift firmly to the Federal Reserve’s meeting on Wednesday, where the central bank will announce its interest rate decision on October 28, followed by the customary press conference.
According to a Reuters survey, nearly all economists expect the Fed to leave the federal funds target rate unchanged at 3.75%-4.00%. However, expectations for a rate hike in December have increased noticeably over the past few weeks, particularly following the release of September Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) readings.
Unless there is a major surprise and an unexpected rate hike on Wednesday, the decision itself may have less impact on crypto markets than the Fed’s forward guidance. A more dovish tone regarding future tightening could pressure Treasury yields and the US dollar, thereby improving investor appetite for risk assets such as BTC. Conversely, renewed warnings about persistent inflation or further rate hikes could add additional downward pressure.
Thursday could prove to be an even more significant day, as the Bureau of Economic Analysis will publish the advance estimate for Q3 US GDP. This release will coincide with data on September Personal Income and Outlays, which includes the Fed’s preferred measure of inflation, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index.
Markets currently anticipate that economic growth will remain strong while inflation stays elevated. This combination would reinforce the argument that the Fed has room to maintain restrictive monetary policy, potentially creating another headwind for BTC and the broader crypto market.
Big Tech Earnings Reports
The Kobeissi Letter highlighted that approximately 20% of S&P 500 companies are scheduled to report earnings this week. Microsoft and Alphabet are set to report on Wednesday, followed by Amazon and Intel on Thursday. This is significant for the crypto market because BTC has increasingly traded in correlation with broader risk sentiment, particularly during sharp moves in technology stocks.
Investors will be closely monitoring whether massive investments in artificial intelligence (AI) are translating into sufficient growth for Microsoft, Alphabet, and Amazon. Recent concerns regarding technology valuations have weighed heavily on equities, and these earnings reports will provide crucial insights.
Bitcoin has suffered over the past week, particularly after being rejected at the $85,000 level last Wednesday. The asset plummeted to a five-week low of $79,100 on Saturday and is now fighting to maintain its position above $80,000. Although spot BTC ETFs showed gains last week, this positive performance did not significantly help the underlying asset’s price recover.
