White hacker returned $1.84 million after the hack of the Foom Cash blockchain platform0

An anonymous white hat hacker known as Duha assisted in recovering $1.84 million of the $2.26 million stolen during the breach of the decentralized anonymous lottery platform Foom Cash.

Duha identified a vulnerability in the lottery protocol and managed to freeze a portion of the funds on the Base blockchain before the perpetrators could withdraw them. For this effort, Foom Cash awarded the “white” hacker a bounty of $320,000.

The breach was attributed to a critical flaw during the lottery preparation phase: a crucial step in deploying the protocol—shuffling the participation requests—was overlooked. This oversight allowed the attacker to deceive the system by falsifying data, leading it to recognize him as the winner, as reported by the platform.

“White” or ethical hackers are those who assist in identifying vulnerabilities and recovering stolen assets. Sometimes, even the hackers who return stolen cryptocurrency for a reward are included in this category. This was the case during the Nomad bridge attack, where hackers returned approximately $9 million of the stolen funds, and in the Team Finance breach, where a hacker returned over $7 million to the platform.

In early February, the Ethereum Foundation announced a partnership with the team of “white” hackers SEAL (Security Alliance). Together, they will launch the “Trillion Dollar Security” initiative aimed at combating programs that deplete cryptocurrency wallets. SEAL was established in August 2023 by blockchain researcher Samczsun from Paradigm. In its first year, the team conducted over 900 investigations related to hacking incidents.

The total losses from hacking attacks and vulnerabilities in February were reported to be the lowest for any month since March 2025—around $37.7 million, according to analysts from CertiK. This figure represents a 60% decrease compared to January.
