Uzbek crypto investor going to trial for trading on Binance0

Law enforcement officers of the Bukhara region of the Republic of Uzbekistan arrested a resident of Andijan and charged him with illegal transactions with crypto assets worth over 18 billion soums (more than $1.3 million). In Uzbekistan, people who trade on platforms like Binance and Bitget that are not licensed in the country are considered to be violators of the law.

From April 20 to September 30, 2025, the man made 2,400 transactions on Binance and Bitget, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. The total volume of transactions amounted to 1,373,824 , law enforcement officers specified. According to the investigation, 1 billion soums passed through the bank cards of intermediaries, “which made it possible to disguise transactions.” Another 757 million soums went to accounts controlled by the detainee himself, then all this money was transferred to external crypto-exchange wallets and converted into digital assets, police said. They did not specify the fate of the remaining funds.

During the search, the suspect’s mobile phone was confiscated. About 15 crypto addresses and the Binance application were found on the smartphone. Trading operations were carried out through an account registered in the name of the defendant, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.

A criminal case was opened against the detainee under paragraph “a” of Part 3 of Article 278-8 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (“Violation of legislation in the field of circulation of crypto-assets on an especially large scale”). The maximum penalty is imprisonment for up to five years. In August 2025, a man was already convicted of illegal crypto transactions worth 26 billion soums. The defendant pleaded guilty, the court sentenced him to restriction of freedom.

Transactions with cryptocurrencies are allowed in Uzbekistan, but only on exchanges that have received permission from the authorities. Trading on unregistered platforms may result in both administrative and criminal liability. A year ago, law enforcement agencies of the republic arrested a 17-year-old teenager from the Bukhara region. He faced up to five years in prison for illegal trafficking in cryptocurrencies worth 34 billion soums ($2.6 million).
