UK regulator bans HTX exchange advertising on social media., 2026/02/11 10:39:28

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) of the United Kingdom has accused the cryptocurrency exchange HTX, formerly known as Huobi Global, of unlawfully promoting cryptocurrency products to British users and breaching advertising regulations for financial services.
The regulator announced that it initiated an investigation against HTX and its associates in the High Court of London in October 2025. Recently, the FCA obtained permission to serve legal documents outside the UK through alternative methods, as the exchange is registered in Panama.
New advertising regulations for financial services came into effect in the country in October 2023, applying to both domestic and foreign companies engaging with clients from the UK. According to these rules, cryptocurrency advertisements must be published by an authorized entity or receive its approval, and must include comprehensive disclosure of investment risks.
The FCA reported that most market participants adjusted their marketing materials or ceased operations with British clients following the implementation of the regulations. In the case of HTX, the regulator has been monitoring the situation for several months.
“The organizational structure of HTX lacks transparency — the exchange does not disclose its owners and operators. HTX continues to advertise its services on TikTok, X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, violating legal requirements. Numerous attempts to contact the company have gone unanswered,” stated the FCA.
The regulator noted that HTX has restricted the registration of new users from the UK. However, existing clients still have access to the platform and its promotional materials, which the agency deems illegal. The FCA also expressed concerns that the exchange might resume registration for British users.
The agency has demanded that social media platforms block HTX accounts in the country and remove the exchange’s applications from the Google Play and Apple App Store in the UK. The FCA warned that in the event of complaints, HTX clients would not be able to rely on regulatory protection.
Previously, the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) prohibited the airing of an advertisement from the American cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, deeming it misleading.
