In the village of Voznesenskoye in the Khabarovsk region, two men aged 43 and 47 established an illegal mining farm in a private garage, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.
A representative from a resource supply organization informed the police about the unauthorized connection to a transformer substation in the village of Voznesenskoye in the Amur district. During the inspection, law enforcement discovered the mining farm located in a private garage. Inside, there were containers filled with cryptocurrency mining equipment, connected to the power supply bypassing the meters.
According to the investigation, the men purchased the equipment online, rented a garage near the substation, and previously laid a cable for the illegal connection.
During the search, eight computer units, routers, distribution equipment, and cables were seized from them. Additionally, one of the suspects had property confiscated that could be used to cover the damages, which, according to the energy providers, amounted to 2 million rubles.
“Both suspects are from Komsomolsk-on-Amur, one of whom is a network technician. They admitted to stealing electricity for cryptocurrency mining,” law enforcement officials stated.
Authorities have initiated a case under the article concerning property damage. The suspects have been placed under a travel restriction, facing a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.
Previously, an illegal mining farm was discovered on the grounds of an abandoned gas station in the village of Lokhovo in the Cheremkhovo district of the Irkutsk region. The damage to the regional energy system is estimated at 2 million rubles, according to the Irkutsk Electric Network Company.
