The UK Companies House has removed the cryptocurrency exchange Zedxion from its list of legal entities, citing inaccurate information provided by the trading platform during its registration.

Under the regulations governing the formation and dissolution of legal entities in the United Kingdom, an organization may be struck off the register if it is suspected of submitting false or misleading information in its registration application. Following its removal from the register, Zedxion will no longer be able to operate legally within the country.

In a statement from the registry authority, it is claimed that Zedxion’s director, Elizabeth Newman, may be a fictitious individual. These suspicions arose due to the use of stock photos for Newman in Zedxion’s promotional materials.

Zedxion Exchange was established in May 2021. A certain Babak Morteza was listed as the controlling person. This identification matches that of Babak Zanjani, an Iranian businessman previously accused of violating international sanctions. In August 2022, Morteza disappeared from the registry, and Newman took his place.

The removal of Zedxion from the government register followed a decision by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to blacklist Zedxion and its associated entity Zedcex for assisting Iran in circumventing sanctions and for connections to businessman Zanjani. Since 2013, Zanjani has been on the U.S. and EU blacklist for transactions related to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). In 2016, Zanjani was convicted of embezzlement and sentenced to death in Iran; however, in 2024, after the return of funds, his sentence was commuted.

Last year, UK authorities added Kyrgyz companies Altair Holding, “Grinex,” “Tengricoin,” “Old Vector,” and “Capital Bank” to the sanctions list, accusing them of using the ruble stablecoin A7A5 to evade international sanctions imposed against Russia.
