Russian tax authorities reveal the number of registered miners., 2026/02/20 15:50:12

The Federal Tax Service of Russia (FTS) has reported that since the implementation of the law regulating cryptocurrency mining, over five thousand miners have legalized their operations. In February 2025, this figure was just above six hundred.
The register maintained by the FTS includes more than one thousand five hundred companies and individual entrepreneurs (IEs). Additionally, there are four thousand miners who are private individuals. A private individual is permitted to mine without being registered, provided their electricity consumption does not exceed 6000 kWh per month.
Larger miners are only allowed to operate in Russia once they are included in the register. To achieve this, they must submit an application electronically through the FTS’s “Mining Register” service. The application must disclose:
-
information about the organization or individual entrepreneur;
-
details regarding the mining equipment and its location;
-
the address of the cryptocurrency wallet for “mining rewards”;
-
information about the mining pool (if mining is conducted through a pool).
The tax authority reminded that by the 20th of the month following the reporting period, all miners are required to submit through their personal FTS account data on the volume of mined cryptocurrency, the wallet address where the virtual coins were received, the pool identifier, and the technical specifications of the mining equipment.
As of November 1, 2024, the law on state control over the extraction of crypto assets and the “Mining Register” came into effect. Subsequently, the FTS introduced an online reporting feature for received cryptocurrency in the taxpayer’s personal account,
Earlier, Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia and State Duma deputy, suggested easing penalties for miners who conceal their business from authorities.
