The CEO of JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon, stated in his annual letter to shareholders that firms engaged in blockchain and asset tokenization are creating a new category of competitors alongside traditional banks and fintech companies.

He mentioned that JPMorgan is monitoring the progress of over one hundred companies in the areas of payments, digital banking, investments, and market making. He highlighted examples such as Block, Citadel Securities, Revolut, and Stripe, noting that many of these firms began with a single product and rapidly expanded their operations.

“New competitors are emerging that work with blockchain, , , and other forms of asset tokenization. We need to develop similar products more swiftly and focus on related areas that can simplify customer interactions. It is essential for us to implement our own blockchain solutions and consider client needs,” Dimon remarked.

He also emphasized the importance of actively integrating artificial intelligence technologies into the bank’s business processes, including cash management, capital raising, and investment management.

JPMorgan has been advancing its blockchain initiatives for several years. In 2019, the bank introduced the digital token JPM Coin. By 2023, the company reported that it processes transactions using this token amounting to over $1 billion daily. Last year, the Kinexys division launched a pilot project focused on the tokenization of carbon credits.
