Investor regains access to Bitcoin after 12 years

A British man named Chris told reporters that he managed to recover 61 Bitcoin, access to which he lost in 2014 following the collapse of the crypto platform Intersango. At that time, more than 5,000 clients were registered on the platform.

According to Chris, for the next 12 years he unsuccessfully tried to contact the company and recover his funds. The rising value of Bitcoin only intensified his anxiety.

“Watching Bitcoin grow and grow was like a punch to the gut. After a while, I stopped following the price because I thought: ‘There’s no point, everything is lost…'”, the investor said.

Throughout these years, friends teased Chris, asking where the millions had gone. Earlier this year, the Briton made another attempt to recover the cryptocurrency and contacted a law firm.

The investigation and subsequent court proceedings took four months. Lawyers, using blockchain analysis, discovered a hidden Intersango wallet, and to confirm Chris’s rights to the assets, they restored his bank statements from 15 years ago. As a result of the court proceedings, the investor managed to recover the Bitcoin.

Chris noted that after the news about the recovery of funds, his family initially did not believe in the success and advised waiting for the actual receipt of the cryptocurrency in the wallet. Even after that, the man continued to check the balance up to 20 times a day. According to him, he intends to keep part of the funds in Bitcoin and convert the rest into fiat currency. The investor plans to use the received money to move to a more spacious house.

Previously, an investor with the nickname Carl reported that he recovered 0.142 from a damaged hard drive after nearly eight years of losing access to the cryptocurrency.
