In Stavropol, a couple set up a mining farm in their garage0

In the Stavropol region, a 52-year-old woman and her 45-year-old partner established a cryptocurrency mining farm in their garage. This information was reported by the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

According to the investigation, the suspects set up specialized mining computer equipment in their garage. To reduce electricity costs, they employed a technical device that allowed them to consume electricity without being accounted for.

Law enforcement agencies claim that this scheme was in operation for one and a half years. During this period, the investigation estimates that electricity worth over 2 million rubles was stolen.

A criminal case has been initiated against the suspects for causing property damage through deception. Currently, investigators are conducting actions aimed at gathering evidence, as reported by the police.

In Russia, a registry of miners and mining infrastructure operators began operating on November 1, 2024. Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs engaged in cryptocurrency mining, as well as companies and entrepreneurs providing services for mining, are required to submit information to this registry.

Meanwhile, individuals can engage in cryptocurrency mining without registering in the registry if their electricity consumption does not exceed 6000 kWh per month.

Previously, in the village of Maidan, in the Untsukul district of Dagestan, law enforcement and energy officials discovered two illegal mining farms consisting of 42 devices. The total power of the equipment was approximately 147 kW.
