In Krasnoyarsk Krai, an engineer has been charged with mining using company resources., 2026/03/18 11:15:38

In the Krasnoyarsk region, an employee of the company “Vodootvedenie” reportedly misappropriated the company’s electrical networks for cryptocurrency mining over a period of nearly two years, causing damages exceeding 1 million rubles, according to the regional prosecutor’s office.
The incident took place in the city of Kodinsk. According to the investigation, the scheme was operational since the beginning of 2024. With access to the company’s infrastructure, the engineer set up mining equipment in a utility room and connected it to the internal electrical networks.
The activities went unnoticed for almost two years. The equipment did not raise any suspicions, and the increase in energy consumption did not attract attention amid the overall load of the enterprise.
“The engineer, operating covertly, consumed the company’s energy. Neither the internet connection nor the noise from the mining rigs raised any questions from management — while the electricity bills increased unnoticed. However, law enforcement detected anomalies in energy consumption during an operational check and uncovered the scheme,” the prosecutor’s office stated.
As a result, the enterprise suffered damages amounting to approximately 1.2 million rubles. The agency emphasized that these resources could have been allocated for the needs of the city’s infrastructure. A criminal case has been initiated under part 4 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Theft in especially large amounts”).
Previously, representatives of the branch “Rosseti Center” — “Yarenergo” reported that two illegal mining farms were discovered in the village of Cherelisin in the Yaroslavl region.
