Hackers hacked the BtcTurk exchange and stole $48 million0

The Turkish cryptocurrency exchange BtcTurk, one of the oldest and largest in the country, reported that attackers gained access to the platform’s hot wallets. Blockchain security specialists from AnChain.AI estimated the damage at approximately $48 million. The has already faced similar attacks in 2024 and 2025.
On January 1, 2026, hackers took advantage of the vulnerability of BtcTurk hot wallets and quickly withdrew funds through several networks, including Ethereum, Arbitrum and Polygon. The stolen assets were combined into one address, which was used to launder funds.

BtcTurk has temporarily suspended the withdrawal of cryptocurrencies and assured customers that assets in cold wallets remained safe.

Cybersecurity experts said that after major hacks of exchanges, a wave of “secondary scams” often rises. Attackers take advantage of the panic of victims to swindle even more funds. AnChain.AI believes that scammers can send letters or SMS messages on behalf of BtcTurk support, claiming that they are entitled to compensation if they connect their wallet to a certain service. As a result, the service turns out to be phishing, and the person loses money in the second round.

Another common technique is the requirement to urgently double-check your account or provide a seed phrase “to protect funds.” Real exchanges never ask for private keys or seed phrases, so such requests should immediately raise suspicions, security experts remind. In addition, you should be wary of suspicious profiles on X or Telegram that offer “direct help” with a BtcTurk account. These accounts are most likely used to lure out funds, AnChain.AI fears.

Users of the Cardano network are under threat of a phishing attack: scammers use a deceptive scheme with a link to malware that disguises itself as the Eternl wallet desktop application. The attack began on December 31 and is still ongoing. It is based on letters that imitate the official message about the release of a wallet for staking Cardano tokens.
