Fraudsters purchased ads for a fake Uniswap site0

The founder of the decentralized exchange Uniswap, Hayden Adams, has reported on fraudulent advertisements that disguise themselves as promotions for his platform. One victim of these scammers lost a six-figure sum.

The fraudsters even purchased ads that appeared at the top of search results for the keyword “Uniswap,” the businessman announced. According to him, such positioning in search engines creates a sense of “officiality.”

Unwary individuals may connect their wallets and authorize transactions, allowing the perpetrators to gain access to all their funds. Adams claims that these phishing offers are blocked by third-party tools like uBlock, which protect users.

A follower of the businessman, known as Ika, shared a screenshot of the top Google search result featuring a fake link to Uniswap, corroborating his claims. Ika stated that his cryptocurrency wallet, containing several hundred thousand dollars, was emptied.

In October 2024, scammers exploited the low authority of the Uniswap domain by creating a copy that appeared similar to the original but with minor differences: for instance, the “Get Started” button was replaced with a “Connect” button, and the “Read Documentation” button was changed to “Bridge.”

In January, the value of cryptocurrencies stolen through exploits and fraud reached $370.3 million—this marked the highest monthly figure in 11 months and represented nearly a fourfold increase compared to January 2025. According to CertiK, there were 40 incidents in January.
