Fraudsters have launched a new wave of phishing attacks on MetaMask users, 2026/01/05 10:16:37

A new phishing campaign is targeting users of the MetaMask crypto wallet. The security director of the Chinese company SlowMist under the nickname 23pds warned about this.
According to screenshots published by 23pds, scammers are creating a fake page notifying them of “security issues” and claiming that the user must undergo mandatory two-factor authentication. After confirmation, the victim is asked to enter a seed phrase under the pretext of additional authentication. As a result, attackers gain complete control over the cryptocurrency wallet.

Information on the number of victims and the extent of damage is not disclosed. There have been no official comments from MetaMask.
This is not the first hacker attack on crypto platforms in 2026. Previously, attackers were able to withdraw $48 million from the hot wallets of the largest Turkish exchange BtcTurk. Users of the Cardano network also became victims of a phishing attack: scammers send fake letters and messages with offers to download a non-existent desktop application of the Eternl wallet. On January 2, anonymous blockchain sleuth ZachXBT reported a large-scale attack on cryptocurrency wallets. And before the New Year, hackers robbed users of the Trust Wallet for $7 million.
