Fraudsters distributed phishing links related to token giveaways to victims of a hacker., 2026/02/23 19:36:25

Susbarium, the fraud alert channel for the Shiba Inu community, reported on scammers distributing phishing links for a fake giveaway of the non-fungible tokens (NFT) Shib Owes You (SOU).
Recently, the developers of the Shiba Inu meme coin initiated the release of collectible SOU tokens to compensate users who suffered losses from a bridge attack in September of the previous year. At that time, a hacker breached the bridge and stole digital assets worth over $4 million.
Following the launch of SOU, fraudsters began creating websites that mimic the official Shiba Inu portal, promising users a free distribution of SOU NFTs. The perpetrators promote counterfeit links to trick individuals into connecting their crypto addresses. By clicking on these links to fake sites, users risk losing their crypto wallet credentials and other sensitive information.
Susbarium assured that SOU NFTs will never be sent directly to users’ addresses. Participants eligible to receive collectible tokens must request them solely through the official portal Shib.io. The amount that affected users can claim should be displayed there. The NFTs received are intended to serve as digital receipts confirming the right to compensation. Developers claim that the new NFTs can be sold on supported trading platforms.
To avoid falling victim to scammers, it is advisable to manually enter the website name Shib.io in the browser’s address bar and refrain from clicking on suspicious links. Under no circumstances should private keys and seed phrases be disclosed—if scammers obtain them, they will gain full access to funds, warned the Shiba Inu team.
Last year, Shiba Inu developers discussed scammers distributing counterfeit TREAT tokens in the Solana or Base networks. Official tokens were launched only on the Ethereum network.
