Four Russians to be tried for extortion against a cryptocurrency farmer., 2026/02/05 15:10:19

In the Krasnodar region of Russia, four local residents have been brought to trial on suspicion of extorting money from the administrator of a mining farm.
In 2021, two brothers, whose names have not been disclosed by the police, aimed to profit from cryptocurrency mining. The relatives found a specialist who was supposed to purchase the necessary equipment, set up the mining farm, and mine bitcoins for them for a fee. The brothers invested 6 million rubles into the project, according to case documents.
The farm was located in an agricultural building in the Sever region of the area. After several years of successful mining, a fire occurred, destroying all the equipment. The crypto farmer reimbursed the brothers the money they had provided (6 million rubles) and additionally returned the mined bitcoins. However, the men began to threaten the administrator with physical harm and demanded an additional 6 million rubles in compensation, police reported.
When the crypto farmer refused to pay, the men involved two acquaintances to help collect the debt, as stated in the case materials. The crypto farmer arranged to meet one of the suspects at a restaurant, where he was subsequently detained by officers from the regional FSB. Later, the security forces arrested three other suspects.
The case is now in court. The accused face a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison, as stipulated by the article on extortion (part 3 of article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
