Ethereum Foundation approaches the promised volume of Ether in staking0

The Ethereum Foundation executed a staking transaction of over 45,000 on Friday, April 3. The total amount of coins staked by the foundation has reached approximately 69,500 ETH, nearly aligning with the announced target of 70,000 ETH, as reported by Arkham Intelligence.

Each transaction series consisted of 2047 tokens. The overall value of the coins sent to staking surpassed $92.2 million.

In February, the foundation staked 2016 ETH, valued at around $4.1 million, while in March, the amount increased to 22,517 ETH (approximately $46.1 million). According to Arkham Intelligence, the Ethereum Foundation has locked more than $143 million in the Ethereum Beacon deposit contract.

The foundation began staking Ether in February, following an updated reserve management strategy announced in the summer of 2025. Revenue generated from staking is intended to support the development and enhancement of the Ethereum protocol, as well as grants for ecosystem growth.

The shift towards a strategy that generates income from the foundation’s treasury assets occurred amid pressure from the Ethereum community. Community members urged the foundation to generate revenue from reserves to cover expenses, rather than selling Ether to fund operations.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin cautioned in January of last year that the foundation’s staking of funds could compel the organization to act as an arbiter in the event of contentious hard forks. This concern arose in scenarios where validators, who lock tokens to secure blockchain networks using the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) algorithm, could influence which chain is deemed valid if the network splits into competing branches.

In mid-March, the Ethereum Foundation sold 5000 ETH to BitMine Immersion Technologies, the largest publicly traded corporate holder of this second-largest cryptocurrency. The transaction amounted to approximately $10.2 million.
