Elon Musk appoints former Coinbase and Aave executive as head of X design team0

Billionaire Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has appointed Benji Taylor, the creator of the Family cryptocurrency wallet, as the head of the design team for the social network X. This was announced by Taylor himself.

According to Nikita Bier, the head of the product division at X, the decision to select Taylor was influenced by the fact that the Family wallet “was one of the most thoughtfully designed products of its kind.” Bier was also a co-investor in Family. He mentioned that the X team had been persuading Taylor to join the platform for six months.

Since last year, the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, has been developing its own payment system called X Money. Elon Musk stated that it is currently undergoing internal beta testing and is preparing for a limited launch. The public release is scheduled for April.

Musk envisions X Money as a hub for financial transactions within the social network. The billionaire promises that the system will support peer-to-peer transfers in fiat currencies, high-yield savings instruments, and integration with cryptocurrencies through a feature called “smart tags,” which transforms standard hashtags related to financial assets into interactive elements with real-time data. This feature is expected to enable users to trade stocks and cryptocurrencies directly within the X feed.

A few years ago, Benji Taylor founded the startup Los Feliz Engineering, which worked on the Family self-custody wallet. In 2023, the project was acquired by the cryptocurrency platform Aave, allowing for the integration of self-custody tools into the Aave ecosystem. Following the acquisition, Taylor was responsible for product line development and assisted in integrating new features and services into the ecosystem.

In October of last year, Taylor transitioned to the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, where he led the design team for the crypto project Base.

This year, Aave lost two major partners involved in developing technical solutions for its ecosystem due to disagreements within the community.
