The largest bank in Denmark, Danske, has provided its clients with the opportunity to invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum through exchange-traded products (ETPs). The bank remains cautious regarding direct investments in cryptocurrency.

Clients using Danske eBanking and Danske Mobile Banking will have access to two cryptocurrencies via ETPs, with two of these tracking Bitcoin’s performance and one tracking Ethereum’s. The selected ETPs (ETFs) are managed by BlackRock and WisdomTree.

Danske Bank attributed the introduction of this new option to the increasing demand from clients for cryptocurrencies, as the bank has been receiving more inquiries from individuals looking to incorporate crypto assets into their investment portfolios and willing to accept high risks.

Kerstin Lysholm, head of investment product development at Danske Bank, acknowledged that the cryptocurrency industry has seen improved regulation in recent years, thanks to the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), which has enhanced trust in the crypto sector.

Previously, Danske Bank held a more definitive stance. In 2018, the bank announced that it would not offer or support any form of cryptocurrency trading through its platforms, advising clients against investing in digital assets. In 2021, Danske once again urged clients to exercise caution regarding digital assets but assured that it would not restrict users’ transactions involving cryptocurrencies.
