Cryptocurrency acquisitions by treasury firms have reached a 18-month low., 2026/03/05 13:01:00

The average monthly acquisitions of cryptocurrencies by companies involved in the storage and management of digital assets (Digital Asset Treasury, DAT) have decreased to $555 million. This marks the lowest level since October 2024, according to data from the analytics platform DefiLlama.
Analysts point out that the current situation resembles the period leading up to the U.S. presidential elections. At that time, the volume of cryptocurrency purchases by corporate holders of Bitcoin and Ethereum dropped to $32.4 million. Following Donald Trump’s victory and the easing of regulations in the crypto sector, the figure surged to $12.3 billion. However, in 2025, the inflow of funds into treasury crypto companies began to decline again. Until August, it remained significantly below $10 billion per month, and then decreased even further.
For comparison, in the peak month of November 2024, public holders of Bitcoin acquired cryptocurrencies worth $12.34 billion. In November 2025, following the market downturn in October, the purchase volume fell to just $1.37 billion. The weakest month in the past year and a half was last October, when companies bought digital assets totaling $777 million. Meanwhile, there has been no recent recorded outflow of funds from cryptocurrency-holding companies. The last time a negative figure was observed was in January 2022, when it amounted to –$936 million.

Patrick Ngan, the Chief Investment Officer at Zeta Network Group, believes that treasury crypto companies need to reevaluate their business models. He suggests that under current conditions, a more effective strategy may involve active management of digital assets rather than merely accumulating them in anticipation of market volatility.
Previously, Mike Novogratz, the CEO of Galaxy Digital, stated that the strategy of companies building reserves in Bitcoin and Ethereum has reached a critical juncture. In his view, such organizations face a choice: to transform or gradually exit the market.
