Court orders underground miner to pay nearly 100 million rubles0

The Cherkessk City Court has reached a verdict regarding illegal mining activities in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. A resident of the Chapayevsky village in the Prikuban district is required to pay 97.7 million rubles to the company “Rosseti North Caucasus” for unaccounted electricity consumption.

The illicit connection to the electrical grid to power a mining farm, which consisted of over 180 devices, was discovered at the end of 2024. Following an inspection, a criminal case was initiated under part 1 of Article 165 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and the energy company filed a lawsuit for damages. The court granted the plaintiff’s claims.

The energy company’s press service reported that the violation was identified during a joint raid with law enforcement agencies. The mining equipment was connected bypassing the metering devices, which enabled the supply of electricity to more than 180 devices. The total amount of unaccounted consumption reached 97.7 million rubles.

Previously, “Rosseti North Caucasus” indicated that in 2025, the damage from underground mining in the region exceeded 1 billion rubles.
