The police in Perak, Malaysia, apprehended 22 Chinese nationals during a raid on a call center where employees were contacting individuals to promote cryptocurrency investments. The call center was located in a guesthouse, and the victims of the callers were primarily Europeans, with a notable number being Italians.

Among those detained are 19 men and three women aged between 22 and 40 years. During the searches, law enforcement seized 35 mobile phones, nine laptops, and networking equipment valued at 95,000 ringgit (approximately $23,895). The total amount of losses incurred by investors affected by the call center has not yet been disclosed.

The Malaysian police’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department reported that the call center’s operators were involved in cryptocurrency investment fraud through the Pyxora Labs platform. Potential victims were contacted via messaging apps WhatsApp and Telegram, with offers to invest in through the Pyxora Labs application or website.

According to the police, the scheme has been operational since early February. All detained Chinese nationals possess valid documentation. They are being held in custody for four days, until April 10. The police are currently verifying with the immigration department regarding the arrival of these individuals in Malaysia, searching for local accomplices involved in the scheme, as well as a possible supervisor of the call center.

Last year, EU intelligence agencies dismantled a call center operated by Latvian crypto fraudsters, which resulted in European investors losing around $5.7 million. Previously, an investigation into a criminal case concerning a call center in the Republic of Khakassia was concluded, where employees defrauded victims of at least 6 million rubles.
