The owner of a controlling stake in Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, Changpeng Zhao said that the company no longer needs his management.
During his absence from office, under the current leadership of Binance Richard Teng and Yi He, the exchange’s market share and audience reach have only grown, the businessman noted.
“I generally don’t need to go back, and to be honest, I don’t want to. Retirement was a good exit point after seven years of work. It was painful at the time, but now I don’t think it’s necessary to go back. We need to give way to other strong leaders. And if I want to give advice, I’ll just write about it on Twitter,” Zhao said.
The entrepreneur answered a question about Binance’s connections with the business of the US President’s family. According to Zhao, he has never met Donald Trump in person, and the closest he was was during the World Economic Forum in Davos, at a distance of about nine meters.

At the end of April 2024, a federal court in Seattle sentenced Zhao to four months in prison after he pleaded guilty to failing to adequately combat money laundering through Binance. At the same time, the entrepreneur left the post of general director of the exchange. Zhao was released at the end of September 2024, and Donald Trump pardoned him in October 2025.
