Bank of Russia: 84% of financial pyramids utilize cryptocurrencies, 2026/04/02 10:50:03

In 2025, the Central Bank identified over 3,500 financial pyramids, with 84% of these entities accepting payments in cryptocurrencies. This information was shared by Evgeny Khomitsky, the deputy head of the financial monitoring and currency control service at the Bank of Russia.
Compared to the previous year, the total number of financial pyramids decreased by approximately one-third; however, the proportion of projects utilizing digital assets increased.
“In 2025, we identified 3,500 financial pyramids. In 2024, 70% of these pyramids accepted payments via cryptocurrency, and in 2025, this figure rose to 84%,” Khomitsky stated.
He also highlighted the prevalence of schemes involving so-called pseudo-brokers that offer cryptocurrency trading services. Fraudsters create fake trading platforms, attracting users interested in additional income, after which they transfer funds to their wallets and cease all communication.
A representative of the Bank of Russia added that the Central Bank is collaborating with government agencies to develop measures in the cryptocurrency sector aimed at protecting citizens.
