A 46-year-old resident of the city of Kursk transferred 28 million rubles to a fraudster who offered to make money by investing in cryptocurrency. The woman’s involvement in the crypto scheme lasted about a year, the regional department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

The police said that the Russian woman met the man via messenger. The interlocutor said that he lives in an Arab country and is ready to invite the Kurdish woman to his homeland to get to know her better. Soon after, the foreigner said that he was making money by investing in cryptocurrency, and quite successfully.

The stories of a new acquaintance made the woman want to get rich quickly. Under his guidance, she downloaded an unnamed mobile application and began transferring her savings to the proposed account. A month later, on the advice of a fake crypto investor, the victim began to sell off property without discussing what was happening with loved ones, the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified.

“The result of inexplicable gullibility and many months of communication was the sale of three apartments, a car, a gold bar, obtaining bank loans and loans from friends in order to receive supposedly high profits in cryptocurrency,” the security forces reported.

The man promised to help with the move abroad and insisted on continuing the investment, but he put off the move in every possible way, using the excuse of a lack of money. When a resident of Kursk ran out of funds and her property was sold, the attacker deleted all correspondence in the messenger and stopped communicating. The police assured that they are looking for the swindler and other persons involved in the crime.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Kirov Region reported that a resident of the regional center trusted the promises of scammers about quick profits from investments on the cryptocurrency exchange and lost more than 2 million rubles.
