The Uspensky District Court in the Krasnodar Krai has imposed a fine of 250,000 rubles on a 36-year-old local resident for the unauthorized use of electricity for cryptocurrency mining.

According to the investigation, the individual converted one of the uninhabited buildings in the Uspensky district into a mining facility, connecting to the power grid without going through the metering devices. The premises housed 19 cryptocurrency mining rigs operating around the clock. The energy supply company estimated the damage caused at 3.3 million rubles.

During the court proceedings, the defendant did not admit guilt. The issue of damage compensation is being addressed in the Arbitration Court of Krasnodar Krai following a claim from the energy supply company. The court also ordered the confiscation of the mining equipment, valued at approximately 600,000 rubles, as reported by the regional prosecutor’s office.

Previously, in the Traktorozavodsky district of Chelyabinsk, a mining farm operated for nearly a month in an apartment within a multi-unit building. The equipment was discovered by the management company staff during an inspection of abnormal electricity consumption.
