Ethereum Name Service introduces fiat payment options for ENS domain registrations.

Web3 participants can now register decentralized .eth domains on the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) protocol utilizing various fiat payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, as well as debit and credit cards.
ENS revealed the introduction of a new fiat on-ramp for domain registrations via the Web3 fiat payment gateway MoonPay on April 20. Previously, .eth domain registrations had to be settled using Ether (ETH) through cryptocurrency wallets, which was noted as a hurdle for potential Web3 users.
MoonPay’s service has been incorporated into the ENS website, and the platform has also launched version 3 of its user interface to enhance the registration process. This aims to remove the necessity for multiple transaction approvals that were previously required with cryptocurrency wallets.
A statement from ENS founder Nick Johnson emphasized the service’s goal of making Web3 “human-readable” to facilitate the acquisition of decentralized digital identities. ENS enables users to associate human-readable names like “cointelegraph.eth” with machine-readable data such as cryptocurrency addresses and URLs:
“This allows us to reach those who are either just entering the space or who are not yet comfortable with transacting and would prefer to use the currency and payment form they understand best.”
The enhancement of ENS’s platform is also expected to broaden its functionality beyond the primary purpose of generating human-readable names for wallets to replace numerical addresses typically produced by wallet service providers, platforms, and blockchain protocols.
ENS users can utilize names to host censorship-resistant websites, which can be connected to existing conventional domain name service (DNS) addresses.

MoonPay’s vice president of partnerships, Bree Blazak, noted the integration with ENS as a way to provide a straightforward payment experience for new users seeking to acquire digital identities or decentralized domains:
“Our partnership with ENS delivers that by making it possible to buy a .eth name with some of the most familiar payment methods available.”
The Ethereum Name Service has seen over 2.3 million names created from more than 550,000 unique addresses. As Cointelegraph previously examined, decentralized domain name registrations have been increasing over the past two years.
Both ENS and Unstoppable Domains have emerged as leading platforms welcoming new users into the realm of Web3 and decentralized identities. The latter also collaborated with MoonPay to integrate nonfungible token domains in transactions on the platform in July 2022.
