Over the past two months, large Bitcoin holders have been active in the market, acquiring at a rapid pace. Despite a recent dip in Bitcoin’s value, so-called “whales” have accumulated nearly $3.5 billion worth of cryptocurrency since early April.

Market intelligence platform Santiment reports that Bitcoin whales have been buying aggressively despite the recent price decline. Since the first week of April, there has been a massive $3.5 billion influx into wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC.

Upward Momentum Returns

When whales begin accumulating, it is generally viewed as a positive indicator, suggesting a long-term outlook and anticipation of future price appreciation. Santiment’s latest analysis highlights divergent market reactions to the legal proceedings between BlackRock and the SEC, alongside an increase in whale trading activity.

Bitcoin’s upward momentum was further bolstered when BlackRock, the American multinational investment firm, applied to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for a spot Bitcoin Exchange Traded Fund (ETF).

At its current price of $26,799, Bitcoin is demonstrating steady growth around the $27,000 threshold. Furthermore, data from TradingView indicates that Bitcoin’s market dominance—measured by its as a proportion of the total —has surpassed the 50% mark. According to CoinMarketCap data, the total market value of all circulating Bitcoin currently stands at $522 billion.

Amid growing regulatory scrutiny of competing digital assets, MicroStrategy executive Michael Saylor has predicted that Bitcoin’s dominance could exceed 80%. Despite the SEC classifying 68 cryptocurrencies as securities, Saylor emphasized Bitcoin’s widespread acceptance as the industry’s primary digital commodity.
