Strategy Purchases (MSTR Dashboard)

Key points:

  • Strategy has acquired 89,618 this year, raising total holdings to 761,068 BTC, with two additional Mondays remaining in the quarter for possible purchases.
  • Only the fourth quarter of 2024 was larger, during which the company added 194,180 BTC as bitcoin prices increased by 40% to $100,000.

Strategy (MSTR), recognized as the largest corporate holder of bitcoin globally , appears poised to mark its second-largest quarterly acquisition, continuing its substantial treasury growth even as the cryptocurrency’s value has decreased by 20%.

Since January, the firm has purchased 89,618 BTC, increasing its total to 761,068 BTC. With two Mondays remaining for potential purchase announcements this quarter, that figure could rise further.

The only occasion when Strategy has bought a larger amount of bitcoin was in the fourth quarter of 2024, when it added 194,180 BTC. Notably, November accounted for three of the company’s five largest acquisitions, with purchases of 27,200 BTC, 51,780 BTC, and 55,500 BTC occurring in rapid succession as the price escalated from $70,000 to $100,000 following President Donald Trump’s second election win.

In comparison, the past three months have seen bitcoin’s price decline to a level that is now over 40% below October’s peak of $126,000. Strategy’s common stock has dropped by 15%.

Recent acquisitions have been partially financed through the sale of the company’s perpetual preferred offering, Stretch (STRC), which accounted for up to 15,000 BTC over the last two weeks. However, as the STRC price did not reach its $100 par value this week, the company has been unable to utilize the program at this time.

Strategy’s accumulation is influenced not solely by price but also by the availability of capital.
