OpenBazaar marketplace announces plans for resurgence following previous challenges.

The decentralized platform OpenBazaar seems poised for a revival after being discontinued over two years ago, as indicated by various updates on social media and GitHub.
A GitHub repository on the collaborative software development platform reveals advancements as recent as April 12 in the creation of a new iteration of the marketplace, which ceased operations in 2020.
Brian Hoffman, the previous project lead at OpenBazaar and CEO of OB1 — the commercial entity that developed its software — tweeted on April 9 about the developments on a “new” version of the marketplace, stating it is “getting more interesting by the day.”
Hitting 1,000 lines of code on the new @openbazaar repo. This is getting more interesting by the day.

In response to inquiries regarding how the marketplace would differ this time, considering it was previously shut down due to financial difficulties and inadequate user growth, Hoffman spoke of “freedom of exploration” and suggested that external factors had played a role in its initial failure.
I’m letting it go where it goes. No investor input or outside influences. Freedom of exploration.

The initial indications that OpenBazaar might be making a comeback emerged in a tweet from Hoffman on March 28, where he shared a link to OpenBazaar’s GitHub page, indicating he had been developing a new version of the marketplace using the Rust programming language.

Shortly thereafter, OpenBazaar’s official account also tweeted, stating “it is now time to grow again from the ashes,” and that “work has begun.”
work has begun. we will need recruits. we will need your ideas, your thoughts.

Further supporting the likelihood of a marketplace relaunch, the OpenBazaar website currently displays the message “openbazaar 3.0 – coming soon.”

After the platform was shut down in 2020, Hoffman tweeted that a future version of OpenBazaar would necessitate greater independence from OB1, but did not elaborate on how this would be implemented.
The future of @openbazaar will be more independence from @OB1Company. More news on that soon.

OpenBazaar has been recognized as a decentralized alternative to eBay and was initially launched in 2014. It enabled users to engage directly with one another to conduct transactions using Bitcoin (BTC).
The marketplace was originally named “DarkMarket,” but was rebranded to OpenBazaar following community feedback in an effort to enhance its public perception.
Cointelegraph reached out to Hoffman and OpenBazaar for comments but did not receive an immediate reply.
