Michael Saylor Discloses Work Email Linked to Bitcoin Lightning Address
- The Lightning Network serves as a popular layer 2 scaling solution for Bitcoin.
- MicroStrategy has invested $4.17 billion to acquire 140,000 BTC.
Bitcoin supporter and co-founder of MicroStrategy, Michael Saylor, has now linked a corporate email account to the Bitcoin Lightning Network. On April 17, he shared a glimpse of specific Bitcoin transactions received at “[email protected]” in the form of Satoshis, or “Sats,” which represent the smallest unit of Bitcoin, with his 3 million followers on Twitter.

It remains unclear whether MicroStrategy has extended this feature to all company emails. The Lightning Network is a well-known layer 2 scaling solution for Bitcoin, capable of processing 1 million transactions per second at a minimal cost of 1 Satoshi (approximately four cents). BOLT, which stands for “Basis of Lightning Technology,” is the standard that governs the operation of the Lightning Network.
Utilizing Internet Identifier
The Lightning Address protocol facilitates MicroStrategy’s integration by removing the necessity to manually enter wallet addresses or use QR codes. This allows users to utilize an “Internet Identifier” like an email address instead.
Additionally, Saylor, who now serves as the executive chairman of the company, devised the strategy to invest in Bitcoin to enhance MicroStrategy’s financial standing.
Since initiating purchases in March 2021, MicroStrategy has allocated $4.17 billion to acquire 140,000 BTC. Buy Bitcoin Worldwide indicates an average acquisition price of $29,800 for the firm. MicroStrategy has experienced a mere 1.3% decline in its initial investment, while Bitcoin’s current price stands at $29,400. However, when Bitcoin exceeded $30,000 last week, the company briefly achieved profitability.
As per CMC, the current Bitcoin price is $29,725.44 USD, with a 24-hour trading volume of $17,120,883,296 USD. Bitcoin has decreased by 0.52% over the past 24 hours.
