Lightning Network Receives Update for Its Litd Node Management Tool
- Litd operates in the background to simplify certain node management tasks.
- A new account system enables multiple users to share a single Lightning node.
Lightning Labs, a prominent player in the development of Bitcoin’s rapid and scalable Lightning Network, has enhanced the usability of its node management tool, Litd.
For individuals who lack technical expertise or prefer not to invest significant time learning every detail of the protocol, sending a payment on the Lightning network can be challenging, as they must manage a Lightning “node” to conduct non-custodial transactions.
Enhanced Usability and Accessibility
To assist in the management of Lightning nodes, Lightning Labs offers a tool called Lightning Terminal. Litd operates in the background to simplify some node management tasks, making the Lightning experience more accessible for users.
One of the updates to Litd includes the automated adjustment of Lightning fees. Payments traverse a network of “lightning nodes,” which typically involve low fees.
Usually, the individual managing the network’s node must manually adjust the fees on a Lightning network. However, Lightning Labs has introduced an innovative system for automatically updating these fees on a weekly basis based on the transaction volume processed through each channel.
Additionally, the introduction of “accounts” allows for a new sharing capability. Traditionally, each user operated a single Lightning node, but the new account system permits multiple users to utilize one Lightning node.
To receive funds, new users must ensure that a Lightning channel is available to them, which requires some understanding of how Lightning operates and poses a significant “Liquidity” user experience challenge. Less experienced users may prefer to avoid this complexity.
