What to know:
- Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao informed CNBC that he anticipates bitcoin to "break the four-year cycle" and set new all-time highs this year, deviating from its usual four-year trend.
- Zhao credited his optimistic perspective to what he perceives as increasingly favorable crypto policies in the United States and other nations, which he believes are enhancing the global landscape for digital assets.
- He mentioned that he is offering guidance to approximately a dozen governments on crypto regulation and asset tokenization, while also engaging in personal initiatives such as a free education platform, an investment firm, and mentoring entrepreneurs within the BNB Chain ecosystem.
On Friday, Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao shared with CNBC that he thinks bitcoin will disrupt its four-year cycle this year due to a shift towards crypto-friendly policies in the U.S. and other countries.
“If you are considering today, tomorrow, on a daily basis, I can’t predict” the direction of bitcoin’s price, the founder of the crypto exchange stated in reply to Squawk Box’s Andrew Ross Sorkin’s inquiry about his BTC forecast for the year. “However, if you examine the five to ten year outlook, it’s quite straightforward to foresee. We are going to rise.”

The CNBC host queried CZ whether he concurred with Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood, who recently predicted bitcoin’s value to range between $300,000 and $1.5 million by 2030, while others assert that bitcoin will reach new all-time highs this year. “I have very strong feelings that there will likely be a supercycle (this year),” he replied.
“Typically, bitcoin adheres to four-year cycles […], but I believe that this year, with the U.S. being highly supportive of crypto and many other countries following suit, we are likely to witness this shift. We will probably break the four-year cycle,” stated CZ, affirming that this year the BTC price would escalate to unprecedented levels. Historically, bitcoin cycles occur every four years, approximately 14 to 18 months following the halving event. The next halving is not anticipated until April 2028, suggesting a new all-time high may emerge toward the end of the subsequent year.
Zhao also mentioned to CNBC that he dedicates considerable time to advising lawmakers on crypto regulations, stating, “I also spend a lot of time engaging with around a dozen governments regarding how to regulate crypto, manage tokenization, and implement stablecoins.”
CZ had previously indicated during a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos that he was in discussions with about a dozen nations concerning the tokenization of their assets, although he refrained from naming specific countries or assets. He did mention that the objective is to enable those nations to raise capital by offering fractional ownership of state-owned assets to their citizens or investors, akin to some countries that have divested stakes in national oil or telecommunications companies.
During the Davos interview with Squawk Box, Zhao also highlighted what he perceives as a wider political transformation regarding digital assets, asserting that the growing pro-crypto sentiment globally is “beneficial for the crypto sector and advantageous for America as well.”
Finally, Zhao spoke about his personal endeavors, indicating that he is “still quite busy,” and that his workload is “increasing.” He has been “developing a free education platform called Giggle Academy,” and has also “collaborated with an investment group named YZi Labs.” Zhao added that he continues to mentor “several founders in the BNB Chain ecosystem,” emphasizing that “we’re minority investors” and that his primary role is supportive: “I primarily mentor them.
