This week could be crucial for markets, including bitcoin , as the U.S. Federal Reserve is one of seven major central banks scheduled to declare interest-rate decisions, while oil price increases driven by conflict could reignite inflationary pressures in the global economy.

It is anticipated that most central banks will maintain current interest rates; however, any hawkish remarks from officials regarding inflation could lead to downward volatility in risk assets.

André Dragosch, the European head of research at Bitwise, informed CoinDesk that although reflationary environments have historically benefitted bitcoin, increasing inflation expectations are causing bond yields to rise and tightening financial conditions, which typically render riskier investments less appealing.

Nevertheless, according to Dragosch, geopolitical tensions are currently the overwhelming factor influencing the market. Historically, such disturbances tend to dissipate quickly, and bitcoin has frequently produced above-average returns following periods of heightened geopolitical risk.

“Investors should generally fade these kinds of events and view them as short-term buying opportunities,” Dragosch stated.

Bitcoin is currently trading at what Dragosch labeled the “largest macro discount” ever recorded, with market sentiment near the lows seen during the FTX collapse. “We are likely nearer to the bottom than the top,” he remarked.
