Relai, the Switzerland-based Bitcoin application featuring a self-custody wallet, has revealed a new collaboration with Blockstream and Breez to incorporate the Lightning Network into its platform, benefiting more than 100,000 European users, as stated in a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine.

The Lightning Network provides a scalable solution for facilitating rapid and low-cost transactions, enhancing Bitcoin’s practicality for daily use.

By utilizing Lightning, Relai intends to simplify Bitcoin payments for its expanding user base, allowing them to send and receive bitcoin directly to their wallets in a self-custodial manner.

“Bitcoin is sound money. Lightning is the future of Bitcoin,” stated Relai CEO Julian Liniger.

“It’s how money will be moved around the world in the 21st century. That’s why Lightning is a strategic focus of Relai and will be integral to our mission of bringing to millions of people quickly, easily, and securely!”

By partnering with industry leaders Blockstream and Breez, Relai seeks to ensure smooth integration and an optimal user experience.

Blockstream’s Greenlight cloud nodes and Breez SDK’s Lightning Service Providers (LSPs) allow Relai to provide the advantages of Lightning while preserving non-custodial control over users’ funds.

The incorporation of Lightning into Relai’s platform marks the initial phase of its product expansion and plans for growth in Europe, according to the release.

Relai aims to secure the MiCA license to broaden its services across Europe, representing a significant advancement towards its objective of making Bitcoin accessible to millions of users throughout the continent.
