Apple Excludes Bitcoin Whitepaper from Recent MacOS Beta Release0

  • The Bitcoin white paper has been part of every MacOS edition for the past five years.
  • The file was found in Virtual Scanner II on macOS.

The Bitcoin white paper has been unexpectedly removed from the beta version of the latest operating system by the leading technology company.

As reported by an Apple-focused news outlet on April 25, the Bitcoin white paper has seemingly disappeared from the current beta release of MacOS Ventura 13.4. The application in question, Virtual Scanner II, was utilized by the tech giant to evaluate scanner software.

A PDF version of Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin white paper has been included with every MacOS copy for the last five years, as noted in a blog entry by technologist Andy Baio on April 5.

Is Steve Jobs Actually Satoshi Nakamoto?

The file was located in Virtual Scanner II on macOS. While its inclusion was not clearly explained, the report suggested it might have been “just a joke among Apple engineers.” Apple Insider mentioned that other more outlandish conspiracy theories have emerged, including the notion that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs is, in fact, Satoshi Nakamoto. However, there is currently no evidence supporting these theories.

Nonetheless, Apple does not appear to share this humorous perspective and has now removed the unexpected file from the latest version of Mac OS. The white paper was found within the Image Capture application, alongside other seemingly unrelated items such as PDFs and images.

In a separate matter, the internet giant was found to have breached California’s antitrust laws by obstructing third-party in-app payment providers. True to its nature, Apple sought to push NFT creators and developers towards its own payment system, which would incur a 30% fee.
