Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse Engages New Attorney for U.S. SEC Litigation0

  • Attorney Robertson possesses prior experience in the crypto enforcement sector.
  • The attorney requested the court to reveal all pertinent documents and communications.

Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple, has engaged a new attorney to represent him in the ongoing XRP litigation in the United States District Court. This development follows a recent motion filed by the U.S. SEC seeking permission to pursue an interlocutory appeal in the case.

In a court filing dated August 22, 2023, attorney Caleb J. Robertson from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP represented the Ripple CEO. In this filing, the attorney requested the court to reveal all pertinent documents and communications. Attorney Michael A. Schulman has joined attorney Robertson in submitting a request to appear Pro Hac Vice on behalf of Garlinghouse.

Long Journey Ahead

Alongside his involvement in the Ripple lawsuit, attorney Robertson has experience in the crypto enforcement sector. He has represented clients including financial institutions, securities firms, investment managers, and publicly traded companies in regulatory matters.

The SEC had asserted that the XRP token sale was a security offering; however, Judge Analisa Torres issued a significant summary judgment dismissing those allegations. This was viewed as a major victory by investors in the cryptocurrency market, as it could establish a legal precedent for future cases.

Conversely, Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, and Chris Larsen, executive chairman of the firm, have notified the court of their unavailability for two weeks in April. This notification is in response to the court’s final ruling regarding the pretrial conference schedule. Notably, the dates provided by Ripple’s management coincide with the forthcoming Bitcoin halving event.
